I remember reading how Hesse was devastated when his future wife moved some of his books without his permission.
I too can relate. Especially if someone ever confiscated, or perused through my musings, whether they were eloquently written or just indecipherable scribblings, smeared on an ink-stained bar napkin. It would be akin to an attempted kidnapping of a loved one.
If you can relate to us, then read Siddhartha, along with Steppenwolf. Hesse could look within, take the soul, turn it inside out, and wear it in the most regal way.

Some are quick to staple the label of a “Narcissist” to Hesse. That’s a critical blunder! Hesse was introspective, but not to a fault. If a label must be applied, then go with “Renunciant”. Whereby, less means more.
Hesse inspired many writers of the “Counter-culture Movement” of the sixties.
Who piqued the curiosities and encouraged scientists of today, to endeavor to present to the world, a gift of great understanding. We can call this gift “A Grand Unified Theory”!
About the Author
Hermann Hesse attempted to live his life in harmony w/ the way he wrote. He received the noble prize in 1946. Do not let his elegance and simplicity of style fool you. He is one of the greatest authors of the modern age.
