Literati Take-away Series, # 4
Toward a Psychology of Being*
If you want to learn about psychology, in an applied sense, then start with Maslow, and begin with this particular work. Here he lays out the architectural blueprints of a movement. One that is still well underway. His insights, his introduction to his “Hierarchy of Needs” model is simple, elegant, and beautiful. It serves as a construct, from which psychologists, philosophers, writers of prose, and even the most gifted of poets, can also draw insights and inspirations.
About the Author
Abraham H Maslow lit the fuse that led to a third behavioristic psychological approach of studies, called “Humanistic Psychology”.*
He was able to correlate and succinctly explain, how one’s actions relate to consequences and outcomes. Though he went well beyond the prevailing inductive/deductive paradigms of his day. In effect, “he kept it real”. This was huge!
* I drew my inspirations from the preface of this second edition by Maslow himself.
